In this article we will familiarize you with the Lemur app and get it up and running on your machine. If you are already familiar with Lemur, you can skip this and go straight to Installing MK Products.

All MIDI Kinetics Lemur controllers are built on Lemur. In order to use MIDI Kinetics Lemur controllers, you must own the Lemur app. Lemur is available for purchase on the App Store and Google Play.

VERDICT: Photolemur 3 is an image editor that automatically transforms your photos with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. The software provides high-quality images without. PhotoScape X (Free) A relatively new photo editing app, PhotoScape X has been gaining popularity with many Mac and PC users since its release in 2008. Its interface is simple but unconventional, with a number of tabs running along the top of the window. Each is responsible for a specific stage of editing. Nothing does what lemur does really. There are other midi template creators but the scripting depth in lemur makes it immensely powerful. Sure, the editor is clunky and the language is (often frustratingly) limited. But it is also the most used app on my iPad and a core part of many of my music performances. Lemur, the professional MIDI and OSC controller app that doesn't cut any corners, has evolved. Now easier to use than ever, more customisable and with more out-of-the-box functionality. Any software or hardware that receives MIDI or OSC can be controlled by Lemur. What is Lemur?

Lemur is an app for iOS/Android that allows you to design your own touchscreen controller for your music equipment. Use buttons and sliders and switches (and more!) to design useful layouts to enhance your productivity, and interact with your equipment in new ways.

MIDI Connectivity

Lemur can talk to pretty much any modern digital music equipment because it transmits standard MIDI messages. Use Lemur to control recording software (DAWs), synths, orchestral sample libraries, live music equipment, mixing consoles, digital instruments, and more! Lemur also supports Open Sound Control (OSC).

The Lemur Editor

Lemur comes with the Lemur Editor for macOS/Windows which makes it easy to create custom layouts with a simple drag and drop interface. Take a look at the free library of user-created projects in the Lemur User Library.

Custom Scripts!

But what makes Lemur uniquely powerful is its deep scripting capabilities. With a little coding, you can create sophisticated controllers that can do almost anything– even custom drawing and animations!

Installing Lemur

  1. On your mobile device, purchase the Lemur app on the App Store/Google Play.
  2. Next, go to https://liine.net and download the Lemur Installer for your Mac/PC. This will install the Lemur Editor.

If you are having issues with Liine’s website you can find updated information here.

Installing MIDI

Lemur communicates using MIDI messages, so you will need some way to connect MIDI from your mobile device to your computer. Lemur can connect to 8 MIDI devices simultaneously. There are a number of popular solutions for connecting MIDI to mobile devices, both wired and wireless:

If you are on macOS, you are in luck. Lemur for macOS includes the Lemur Daemon, which gives you 8 bidirectional MIDI ports…for free! It supports both wired and wireless connections out of the box! The Daemon will be installed along with the Lemur Editor.

Using the Lemur Editor

Lemur Editor File Types

Lemur projects are just text files with one of two file extensions: .jzml, or .jzlib.

  • .jzml files represent entire Lemur projects. To open a .jzml file, simply double-click and it will open in the Lemur Editor.
  • .jzlib files represent Lemur submodules. They can be exported and imported to existing .jzml projects. To import a .jzlib file, right click anywhere in the Lemur Editor window and select Import.

Transferring Lemur Editor projects to/from Lemur app:

Once you’ve created a controller you like, you can transfer it wirelessly to the Lemur app.

  1. In the Lemur Editor, click the Connections Triangle at the top right and select your mobile device from the list.
  2. Choose Connect to transfer from the Editor to the app.
  3. Choose Download to transfer from the app to the Editor.

If you don’t see your mobile device in the list of available devices, make sure your PC and your mobile device are on the same network, and that the Lemur app is currently running on your mobile device.

Emulating Touches

While working in the Editor, emulate touches by holding the E key on your computer keyboard while you click.

Making MIDI Connections with Lemur Targets

Often you will want to group related controls onto the same MIDI connection. Use Lemur Targets to define a group. There are 8 Targets, numbered 0-7.

EditorMac

To connect a Target to MIDI:

  1. Launch Lemur on your mobile device.
  2. Tap the cog-wheel icon at the top-right corner, and go to More Settings…
  3. Connect MIDI inputs under the From column.
  4. Connect MIDI outputs under the To column.

Conclusion

You now have everything you need to get started with Lemur. Once you’ve got Lemur up and running, move on to Installing MK Products.

If you are new to Lemur, it is highly recommended you read the Lemur User Guide, chapters 1-8. You don’t need to go crazy with Lemur and learn how to code. We have taken care of all the coding for you!

Sinusoidal models of sound provide a very powerful tool for digital audio research.Sinusoidal models are useful in audio analysis because they are easy to visualize andinterpret. They are especially useful in sound synthesis because sinusoidal synthesis offersmore control over the synthesized sound than any other synthesis method. Sinusoidalmodeling techniques have long been used for analysis and synthesis of harmonic sounds, suchas pitched musical instruments, but have performed poorly on inharmonic sounds (sounds withno definite pitch, such as drums) and polyphonic sounds (sounds with many pitches present, such as piano chords).

McAulay and Quatieri developed an algorithm that could model non-harmonic andpolyphonic sounds (1986). Specifically, their algorithm was tailored to the special demands ofmodeling speech, but it showed promise for use on a broader class of sounds than previoussinusoidal algorithms. The raw data produced by the McAulay-Quatieri (MQ) algorithm isdifficult to manipulate. Synthesis modifications, such as time scaling, frequency scaling, and sound morphing are difficult to implement usingthe raw MQ data. We have developed a new algorithm based on the work of McAulay andQuatieri. Our algorithm provides a more complete model for a wide variety of audio signals, including complex non-harmonic and polyphonic sounds, and provides a representation thatgreatly facilitates manipulation.

The results of our research are implemented in Lemur, a system for generating and manipulating sinusoidal models for sampled sound.Lemur is a Macintosh implementation of an extended MQ algorithm for sound analysis andsynthesis based on the work of Maher and Beauchamp (1989). Lemur analysis consists of a series of short-timeFourier spectra from which significant frequency components are selected. Similar components in successivespectra are linked to form time-varying partials, called tracks. The number of significant frequency components, and, thus, the number of tracks may vary over the duration of a sound. Synthesis is performed by a bank ofoscillators, each oscillator reproducing the frequency and amplitude trajectory of a single track. Phase accuracy ismaintained using cubic phase (parabolic frequency) interpolation between spectra.

The Lemur model allowsextensive modification of the sound using Lemur's built-in editing functions, or using other customized editors tomodify the intermediate analysis file before resynthesis. Lemur provides tools for time and frequency scalemodifications, partial editing and pruning, timbre morphing, and many other manipulations in the model domain. Time-variant manipulations maybe performed at synthesistime using control files. The Lemur file format contains only amplitude, frequency, and linking information for each track, making it easy for users to write customized Lemur file editors.Third-party implementations of the Lemur model are available (here for example), and a real-time controllable implementation of a bandwidth-enhanced synthesis algorithm is under development.
