Why PreCursive?
PreCursive addresses some of the fundamental problems associated with ball-and-stick manuscript writing:
- the motor skills and visual skills needed to draw the letters
- the difficulty children have in moving from manuscript to cursive in the middle grades.
The program is based on research that indicates ovals and slanted lines are easier for children to form than round circles and straight lines.
Letter size is reduced, and uppercase and lowercase letters are designed to be as similar as possible.
Most letters are formed using a single continuous stroke making the transition to cursive writing very easy. The single stroke formation also helps minimize reversal problems.

The PreCursive Text font provides samples for the student to copy. The PreCursive Text Dashed font provides letters for the child to trace, and the PreCursive Text Stroked font gives directions for forming the letters.
The PreCursive Rails font, the PreCursive Rails Dashed font, and the PreCursive Rails Stroked font provide the letters on handwriting lines.

The Cursive Text font provides samples for the student to copy. The Cursive Text Dashed font provides letters for the child to trace, and the Cursive Text Stroked font gives directions for forming the letters.
The Cursive Rails font, the Cursive Rails Dashed font, and the Cursive Rails Stroked font provide the letters on handwriting lines.
Microsoft Office does not automatically load contextual alternate substitution. Therefore, letter pairs such as ow and ve will not connect until this feature is turned on.

- Set Ligatures to Standard and Contextual
- Set Use contextual alternates to true
